Underwater UXO

Underwater clearance in harbour, dam and marine sites

Unexploded ordnance under water requires a separate safety set-up on both the search and the disposal side. The operation runs on a joint plan between the dive team and the EOD specialist.

Which permits are required for site clearance?

The permit set depends on site type, ordnance category and disposal method. After the initial survey we provide a project-specific permit list and process schedule.

What is the difference between non-technical and technical survey?

Non-technical survey (NTS) defines the suspected area from archives, witness statements and ground evidence; technical survey (TS) narrows that boundary on evidence through controlled entry and lane search.

Is ordnance destroyed in place as soon as it is found?

No. Identification and condition assessment come first. Items unsafe to move are blown in place (BIP); suitable items are moved under safe transport to a central demolition site.

Who determines the safety distance?

The EOD specialist determines it based on ordnance type, net explosive quantity, available cover and the surrounding building inventory. The calculator on this page is a first-order estimate only.

When are mine detection dogs used?

They are used where fast area reduction is needed over large areas and for low-metal-content targets. MDD teams are accredited, performance is verified regularly on a test lane and findings are always confirmed by a second method.

Does drone magnetometry replace a conventional detector?

It does not replace it, it prepares the ground. Aerial survey maps anomaly density over large areas and drives prioritisation; positive identification and excavation are always done by the manual team on site.

Do you carry out underwater UXO clearance?

Yes. In harbour, dam and marine sites we provide sonar and magnetometer supported detection, diver verification and controlled disposal.

Which documents are handed over at the end of clearance?

The cleared area map, search coverage records, the inventory of ordnance found and its disposition, quality control sampling results and a signed site clearance handover report.

Can I commission survey only?

Yes. Survey and risk mapping can be commissioned independently of clearance and disposal works.
